Obituary of Juanita McLeod
It is with profound sorrow that the family of Juanita McLeod announce her passing at the Drew Nursing Home, Sackville, NB on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Juanita passed away peacefully with her daughter and her son-in-law by her side.
Born in Moncton on January 17, 1934, to Guy MacNeill and Maude (Frampton) MacNeill, Juanita was the youngest of their 13 children and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Juanita grew up in Dorchester and besides being a wife and mother, she spent many years in the clerical field working at the Tax Office in Dorchester and later at the Sackville Memorial Hospital in Medical Records, as well as a receptionist in Sackville for the late Dr. Timothy MacAulay.
A woman of faith, Juanita was a pianist and vocalist and was active in her churches in Dorchester and Sackville singing in the choir and playing both piano and organ for many services.
Stricken with viral encephalitis at the age of 49, she believed that her illness was given to her so that she would be an example of strength and perseverance in her faith and she continued to be active at the Main Street Baptist Church as an AWANA leader for many years.
Always supportive of her husband’s endeavours, she accompanied Dick to many horse shows over the years as he both showed in and judged draft horse competitions. Together they attended the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto yearly for many years. She was an integral part of R.V. McLeod and Family Farm.
Juanita will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 72 years, Richard (Dick) McLeod and her daughter and son-in-law Ann and Daryll Mitton. She is also survived by her two beloved grandsons, Richard (Krista) Mitton of Moncton and Robb (Jonna) Mitton of Montney, BC, and her dear great-grandchildren, Kaenen and Megyn Mitton both of Montney BC, as well as her numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her infant son, William John, as well as by all of her siblings, Alice, Everett, Martha, Gertrude, Louisa Douglas, Allister, Henry, Geraldine, Clifford, Constance, and Joyce.
Juanita’s family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at the Drew Nursing Home, past and present, for the exemplary care given to her during the past 19 years. We will be forever grateful for the loving kindness, patience, compassion and respect that Juanita received from everyone over the years. We will never forget that.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (506) 364-8188. Cremation has taken place, and a brief graveside service will take place at the Westcock Cemetery on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 2 pm with Pastor Andrew Swanson officiating, followed by a reception at the St. Ann’s Anglican Church Hall in Westcock. All are welcome to attend.
