Obituary of Betty May (Copp) Sears
It is with deep sadness that the family of Betty May Sears announces her passing on Sunday, November 3, 2024. Betty passed away at the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville, at the age of 91, with her husband and her family by her side.
Born in Westmorland Parish, NB on March 25, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Mansel Copp and Beatrice (Mills) Copp.
Betty was employed for several years with Atlantic Wholesalers, after which she was a dress maker for many years. She eventually got a job at Mount Allison University, where she worked for 20 years. Following her retirement in 1989, Betty walked the Terry Fox Run for over thirteen years, raising many thousands of dollars for cancer research. She knitted hats, mittens and finger puppets for Christmas Cheer and the IWK Hospital and made doll clothes and comfort dolls for the Diabetic Association. Betty will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Betty will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 73 years, Chalmers Sears; her son, Alan (Pat) Sears; her grandsons, Cory (Ashley) and Cole (Becca); her great-grandsons, Jacob, Damen, Parker and Conor; her great-granddaughter, Peyton, as well as by several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by her son, Craig Sears; her sisters, Helen and Joy, as well as by her brothers, Hazen and Robert..
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville N.B. (506) 364-8188. In keeping with Betty’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visiting hours or funeral service.
If so desired, donations in memory of Betty may be made to the Craig Sears Memorial Bursary at Mount Allison University or to the charity of one’s choice.
