Obituary of Forrester Robert Black
It is with sadness that the family of Sonny announces his passing at the Drew Nursing Home Sackville NB on Friday, November 1, 2024, just before his 97th birthday.
Sonny was born November 18, 1927 in Melrose, Mass, USA to Ira and Flora (Thorne) of the Canaan River Black family.
Sonny was an edgerman in many mills as a younger man, was a prison guard at the Dorchester Penitentiary and his most loved job was when he was a truck driver. He was a restorer of old cars, a member of the Antique Auto Club, member of Main Street Baptist Church and a square dancer for thirty-five years with the Tantramar Twirlers and other clubs. He loved sweets, especially pie and it was a fun game trying to hide it from Erma. Sonny will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Sonny is survived by his loving wife of 77 years, Erma (Noiles); his three children, Pat (Henry) Cormier of Sackville, NB, Robert (Diane) of Shubenacadie, NS and David (Terri) of Point de Bute, NB. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tracy of Sackville, Alison (Ben Hardy) of Iqaluit NU, Shane Cormier of Calgary, AB, Jason Goodwin (Dorie) of Calgary, AB, Tristan Black (Christin) of Wheaton Settlement, NB, Brandon Black (Joline) of Riverview, NB and Braedon Black (Janice) of Whitehorse, Yukon; his great-grandchildren, Connor Melanson of Sackville, Skylar Black and his mom, Mindy of Riverview, Shamus and Kira Black of Whitehorse and Adam and Hilary of Riverview; his step-granddaughter, Crystal (Rauly) Brant of Shubenacadie, NS; his very special “granddaughter of Sackville”, dearly loved Melanie Colwell; his two sisters, Joan Tait (Ron) of Salisbury and Trena (Vernon) Jones of Red Deer Alberta, as well as by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents; his beautiful granddaughter, Carissa Black; his brothers, Jim Lawrence, Gerry Lawrence, Leighton Black, Chester Black and Donald Black, as well as by his sisters, Hazel (Ian) Crawford of Calgary and Gloria Steeves of Salisbury.
Sonny’s family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Drew Nursing Home for their wonderful care and kindness shown to Sonny during his stay there.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville N.B. (506) 364-8188. Visiting hours will take place at the Main Street Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 from 1-2 pm, followed immediately by the funeral service at 2 pm with Pastor Andrew Swanson officiating. A reception will follow in the Main Street Baptist Church Vestry. The burial will take place in the Point de Bute Cemetery.
