Obituary of Frederick Treleaven Tweed

It is with sadness and love that we announce the passing of our dear father Frederick Treleaven Tweed on September 25, 2025. Dad passed away peacefully at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow with family by his side.

Born in the regional Municipality of Turtle Mountain, Manitoba on August 29,1930, he was the son of William Clarence and Vona (Staples) Tweed.

Dad grew up on the family farm learning strong values of hard work and resiliency. From those humble beginnings he charted a life of remarkable dedication and service.

Dad, being an academic, farm life was not for him. After finishing school, he waited with the cattle at the end of the field to be picked up for the big city of Winnipeg. After waiting for hours, he jumped on the cattle truck to register at the University of Winnipeg. After joining the RCMP he went to Ottawa to continue his studies obtaining his degree in Chemistry leading to his career in Forensics.

He met the love of his life in Ottawa, our mother Huguette Turpin. Together they built a life rooted in love, mutual respect and unwavering support. His career brought him and the family from Ottawa to Regina, Sackville and finally to Halifax as Superintendent in charge of the

Crime Lab.

Dad was a philanthropist, donating time and money freely, canvassing door to door for various charities. Upon retirement mom and dad relocated back to Sackville, where he dedicated his time as treasurer at the Sackville Legion.

Dad had a love of reading, music, curling, pool, chess, cards and going for walks. He was an expert do-it-yourselfer; not afraid to tackle any challenge.

Dad loved going to his kids and grandkids games over the years, from standing outside in -30 degrees in the outdoor rinks in Regina, swim meets, basketball and soccer games and piano recitals. Dad was a devoted father. He was a very kind, gentle and unselfish man who would much rather give than receive.

Dad will be lovingly remembered by his 6 children, Greg (Nancy), Paul (Norma), Larry, Michelle, Lynn (Randy) and Kevin (Angela); his grandchildren, Dominic (Tara), Justin (Jackie), Natalie, Amanda, Catriona (William), Nathan, Joshua (Kiya), Denise (Luke), Cassandra (Colin), Brittany, Andrew (Nickie); and his great grandchildren Kiera, Emmett, Megan and Tristan. Fred is also survived by his brother, Arnold (Glenyce) as well as his in-laws, Gerard (Carmen), Pierre-Marc (Louise)and Roselyn.

He was pre-deceased by his wife of 66 years Huguette; his parents; brothers, George and Willard and sisters, Eunice, Edythe and Alma.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and the staff at Campbells Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville NB. (506) 364-8188. Following dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #26 will hold a service at the funeral home on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 1 PM, followed by family memories and a time of remembrance and visitation until 4 PM. The burial will take place in the Holy Rosary Cemetery.
